Why You Should Avoid Focusing On a Specific Amount When Manifesting Money
Someone recently sent me this is question:
"I read somewhere on your site that you shouldn't focus on manifesting a specific amount of money. Did you mean that we should focus more on a broader feeling of abundance, not abundance tied to a certain amount of money? Please clarify. Thank you."
Here was my response:
Hi there,
Sometimes when people focus on manifesting a specific amount of money, they might actually be aiming for an amount that -- for the moment - is too high.
So setting your goal in smaller amounts works better, because as you learn to manifest smaller amounts, you build up confidence, and that opens you up to getting ready to receive larger amounts.
Also, sometimes when we have a fixed amount in mind, we can get in our own way! For instance, what if you're doing a bunch of JV's (joint venture partnerships - common in Internet Marketing) with people to help market your product, but you've made some mistakes in calculating a realistic amount of sales? Maybe some of the JV's lists are smaller than you think, or perhaps an email or autoresponder snafu will prevent some mailings from going out. If you have a specific monetary amount in mind that you're trying to manifest and this amount isn't flexible, it could be set too high for the situation at hand. And you could goof up the entire manifestation and not earn any money at all!
But if you approach it more with the attitude of overall abundance, i.e. "I attract abundance and financial well-being in all things, in all ways," you open yourself up to receiving a floodgate of SURPRISE income from many different directions.
That said, there are certainly times when manifesting a specific amount is fine. But sometimes it's best to set a RANGE of income you intend to manifest - give the universe some wiggle room as you raise the energy for your creation.
I do both things, myself. Very often I'll play around and set a highly specific dollar amount and say that that's the amount of money I want to bring in that day - and it always happens. Then I realized I should set the intention this way: "X amount of money or GREATER now flows to me" because that allows even MORE money to flow in than the amount I've got in mind.
But I also like to leave things completely open and let the Universe bring me abundance in its own wonderful way. I prefer this approach. I'm not into trying to control the Universe too much, as I know it's a lot smarter than me!
Abundance can manifest in so many ways. Abundance can arrive in the form of a business tip you receive from someone, or someone offering to help you with your business, that kind of thing. All of that counts as manifesting abundance, and people sometimes forget about that when they're busy focusing on manifesting a certain amount of money.
So try to keep a little wiggle room around the amount, because sometimes the brain does funny things when it's confronted with a number. Focus more on feelings of happiness, abundance, and well-being, and that will generally work better than using static numbers.
