An Interview with Lee Nutter of Bmindful.com, the Free Affirmations Community
A while back I stumbled across an intriguing site called http://bmindful.com, run by Lee Nutter. As I began to scroll through the site I couldn’t believe the amount of free resources Lee has published there over the years!
I know you’ll love it. At this site you can find free affirmations, share your own favorite affirmations, and connect with thousands of like-minded people around the world who also enjoy working with affirmations to improve their lives.
Recently I sat down and asked Lee a few questions about bmindful.com, how it got started and how this free membership site is continuing to evolve.
Q: Thanks for sitting down for a chat, Lee. Can you tell us a little about your site and what inspired you to create this marvelous virtual community?
A: I initially created the site because I'd just been through a really hard time, and after getting out on the other side I realized that it was affirmations that helped me keep my head up on those really hard days. It was affirmations that made me focus on the positive and drove me to better myself and affirmations that gave me direction enough to get out of something that could have quite easily spiraled out of control.
I realized that there was so much conflicting advice when it came to affirmations, and there certainly wasn't anywhere on the internet where people could come and share their affirmations and experiences with one another. I thought it would be a great way to accelerate peoples’ success with affirmations and hopefully get as much out of them as I did.
It wasn't all selfless, though! I continue to use affirmations on a daily basis, and consequently I am as much a bmindful user as I am the moderator.
Q: You're updating the site constantly, and there's some great stuff there. What types of things are you adding to the site on a regular basis? You provide lots of tools and articles for people, right?
A: Whenever I get the time, I like to add the features people are always requesting. I'll prioritize based on demand, and then get to it as soon as I can. I've got lots of cool features planned for 2008, too, so it's an exciting time to be a bmindful user!
With the articles, I am always writing. It is usually very personal and ends up in random text files all over my computer or in a diary or notepad. Sometimes it's very specific, but sometimes I can get a lesson out of it that might help others from making the same mistakes I've made, or that might give someone a shortcut to their goals in some way. If I can see this then I'll try and write an article about it.
It's time consuming sometimes, but I get a lot out of it, especially when I see the number of people reading and linking to my articles. It's motivating to think that you've got something worth reading. Everyone has something valuable to share, though, which is why there is so many places on the site where bmindful members can have their say.
Q: And this isn't just a small community, either. Am I right - you have thousands of members at this point?
A: As of today bmindful is a community of over 4000 positive affirmation users!
Q: That’s amazing! Congratulations. From checking out the site myself I can see that it's a fabulous place to make new friends and connect with like-minded folks from around the world.
I think sometimes when people begin to work with affirmations they can feel a little isolated because their friends or family members might not be supportive. And it's so important to stay focused on drawing positive energy into your life so your affirmations can really take off. Your community seems the perfect place for people to receive support and inspiration as they work with affirmations.
What are your plans for the future of the site? How do you see it evolving in 2008?
A: 2008 is all about the bmindful community. I want to remove myself from the equation as much as possible and give as much opportunity as possible for like-minded people to connect. Everyone has something to offer, everyone has something to learn. My plans are to add some features to the site to help this interaction along. It's all about sharing and learning, and I want to put the emphasis on that rather than on my personal opinions and articles.
Q: As we close, could you give us any information people might need about how to sign up and become a member?
A: Becoming a member is free and easy! Simply visit http://bmindful.com/ and find the “sign up for free” box on the left hand side of the page. All you need is a username of your choice and an email address and you're in! From there you're able to browse the affirmations, add your own, and build a list that's printable and shareable. You're also able to build up a list of friends, comment on others’ profiles, and comment on the affirmations -- leaving experiences, thoughts, whatever!
Q: Thanks so much for your time, Lee. Folks, head on over to Lee's site now and check out the exciting resources that are available there. I know you'll find information and people to inspire you!
A: Thanks very much for the opportunity, Jennifer!
